ZPRP sack Marcin Lijewski


The Polish Handball Association (ZPRP) announces the end of cooperation with the current head coach of the Polish men’s national team, Marcin Lijewski. The decision was made by ZPRP President Sławomir Szmal after a through analysis of the coach’s work, consultations with the ZPRP Coaches’ Council, and was approved by the ZPRP Board on February 24, 2025.
Marcin Lijewski – a former outstanding Polish national team player who played as a right back and won two World Championship medals – was appointed as the head coach of the Polish national team in March 2023.
Before taking this position, Marcin Lijewski worked as a coach in ORLEN Superliga clubs: Wybrzeże Gdańsk (2017–2019) and Górnik Zabrze (2019–2022).
Under Marcin Lijewski’s leadership, the Polish men’s national team secured qualification and participated in two major tournaments: the 2024 European Championship and the 2025 World Championship. In the first tournament, Poland finished in 16th place, while in the second, they ranked 25th.
In the upcoming qualifying matches, the national team will be led by the current assistant coach, Michał Skórski.
