BIS 2029! Mathias Gidsel Extends Contract with Füchse Berlin

Mathias Gidsel, the 25-years old Danish world-class handball player and reigning World Championship MVP, has extended his contract with Füchse Berlin ahead of schedule. Despite speculation about a possible early departure, Gidsel and the club have confirmed that his contract, originally running until 2028, has been extended by an additional year until 2029.

Gidsel has been outstanding in the Handball Bundesliga, setting a new record last season with 260 field goals and currently leading the league’s top scorer list with 131 goals in just 16 matches. His decision to stay is driven by trust in the club’s project and the ambition to win the German championship.

Füchse Berlin’s management, including CEO Bob Hanning and Sports Director Stefan Kretzschmar, expressed their excitement over Gidsel’s commitment, emphasizing his importance to the team’s development. The extension also puts an end to rumors linking Gidsel to a potential move to Flensburg.

For Gidsel, success is important, but his priority remains enjoying the game. He believes that happiness on the field translates into great performances, which his current form clearly demonstrates. His long-term commitment signals both personal satisfaction and the club’s ambitions for future success.

“I am, of course, very happy that we have signed this contract. I have great confidence in this project. I feel that Füchse can continue to develop as a club, but I can also grow as a player. That’s why I extended my contract. In recent years, we have shown a good level and are on a good path to winning our first German championship.”
