FROM THE BUNDESLIGA TO OHRID? Tilen Strmljan Joins New Macedonian Project

GRK Ohrid has established itself over the past two seasons as the fourth strongest force in North Macedonia, right behind the leading trio of RK Eurofarm Pelister, RK Vardar, and RK Alkaloid. According to reports from the Ohrid lake, their ambitions in the coming seasons will be aimed at competing for trophies. In line with this, it has been announced that Ohrid’s management has reached an agreement with the German TSV Hannover-Burgdorf’s playmaker, Tilen Strmljan!
After Eurofarm Pelister managed to bring in Filip Kuzmanovski and Žarko Peševski from the world’s best league in recent times, Ohrid has now also started recruiting from the German Bundesliga.
The 29-year-old Slovenian playmaker is an occasional national team player for his country, which was close to winning a medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics. He is currently in his second season with the Bundesliga club, which holds third place in the world’s strongest league. Strmljan arrived in Germany from RK Celje Pivovarna Laško, where he fully established himself with impressive performances in the EHF Champions League. Before joining Celje in 2021, the talented Slovenian built his handball career playing for Ribnica, Herz Šmartno, and Rudar from Trbovlje.
In the coming weeks, GRK Ohrid is expected to be even more active in the transfer market, assembling a stronger squad than the current one. This will make the national league even more competitive in a country where handball is undoubtedly the number one sport.
