Franz Semper’s Handball World Championship 2025 Ends Due to Injury

Germany’s handball player Franz Semper has been forced to withdraw from the 2025 Handball World Cup following an injury. Semper had only recently joined the squad for the second main round match against Italy due to prior muscular issues. In a spectacular debut, the 27-year-old scored five goals in less than eight minutes, showcasing his talent before suffering a new injury during the match.
The German Handball Federation (DHB) confirmed that Semper returned home on Friday, marking another setback for the national team, which was already missing key players Juri Knorr and Rune Dahmke due to illness.
National team manager Benjamin Chatton described the loss as “bitter” and mentioned ongoing discussions about potential replacements, emphasizing that there is no immediate pressure to decide. While Germany’s final main round match against Tunisia holds sporting significance, it will not impact their qualification, as the team has already secured a spot in the quarterfinals as group runners-up.
The DHB also announced that Marian Michalczik has been nominated to join the team for the game against Tunisia, which takes place on Saturday at 8:30 PM in Herning. Germany’s quarterfinal match is scheduled for Wednesday in Oslo, with the opponent yet to be determined. The team is also monitoring the recovery progress of Knorr and Dahmke ahead of the crucial game.
