France first at 1/4 final – Germany beat Italy

France won the fifth match in a row in Croatian part of the World Championship 2025 to secure place at quarter-final in Zagreb. The French team routinely beat Netherlands 35:28 to come first a round before the end of Main Round in Varazdin.

The game between Italy and Germany started nervously, with Italy taking the lead early through Domenico Ebner’s strong goalkeeping and a counterattack by Jeremi Pirani. Germany faced difficulties in the absence of their captain and playmaker Juri Knorr, leading to weaknesses in their buildup play. Despite initial struggles, Germany fought back, particularly in defense, and managed to close the gap by halftime (15:13).

In the second half, Germany gained momentum through the excellent performance of Andreas Wolff in goal and Franz Semper, who made an immediate impact with a series of goals. Italy tried to stay in the game by using a seventh field player, but their efforts were hampered by a strong German defense and declining energy levels. Germany’s efficient offense and consistent saves from Wolff secured their victory, with a final score of 34:27 in favor of Germany.
