Denmark Crushes Portugal to Reach 4th Final in a row

After Croatia’s thrilling victory over France in Zagreb secured their spot in the final, Denmark and Portugal faced off in Oslo to determine their opponent.

Denmark, the reigning Olympic champion and titleholder, entered as the clear favorite, having cruised through the tournament. Portugal, however, had surprised many by eliminating top teams like Norway, Spain, Sweden, and Germany.

Denmark started strong, with Rasmus Lauge scoring the first goal. Portugal, playing in its first-ever semifinal, struggled with nerves and early suspensions. The Danes quickly took advantage, pulling ahead 6:2. Though Portugal briefly fought back, Denmark maintained control, leading 20:16 at halftime.

In the second half, Denmark accelerated the pace, extending their lead to 28:20 by the 39th minute. Portugal’s defense crumbled, and goalkeeper Emil Nielsen’s stellar saves frustrated their attack. A goal from Niclas Kirkelökke made it 30:20, sealing the fate of the match.

Denmark dominated the final stretch, eventually winning 40:27. This victory marks their 36th consecutive World Championship win and their fourth straight final appearance, where they will face Croatia.
