Dani Baijens to join Rhein Neckar Lowen

Dani Baijens Completes the Löwen Squad: The 90-time Dutch international player terminates his contract with Paris Saint-Germain, which was set to run until 2026, to join the Rhein-Neckar Löwen on July 1, 2025. Baijens, who brings experience from six Bundesliga seasons with Flensburg, Lemgo, and Hamburg, as well as a year of Champions League experience with an absolute top club, is versatile in the backcourt and increases the variability in all phases of the game with his high game understanding.

“Dani is an explosive, agile player who excels in one-on-one situations. But he can also read the game very well, brings a lot of handball intelligence, and knows exactly what is important in the Bundesliga. With Dani, we’re getting a full-blooded handball player who identifies fully with our club and our playing philosophy,” says Uwe Gensheimer, the soon-to-be Sporting Director of the Löwen, describing the qualities of the latest signing for the 2025/26 season.

Dani Baijens Completes the Löwen Squad: “They Believe in Me Here” Leaving Paris after just one year is a directional decision for the 26-year-old: “At PSG, I couldn’t take on the role that I envision for myself and that I need for my game. During my conversations with the Löwen, I immediately felt: Here, they believe in me. I’m really looking forward to playing in the Bundesliga again starting this summer, as well as meeting the Löwen fans, to whom I promise that I will always give my all on the field.”

Dani Baijens was born on May 5, 1998, in the Dutch port city of Rotterdam, where he also started playing handball. At just 19 years old, he made the leap to Germany. After starting with the second team of SG Flensburg-Handewitt and making his first appearances with the professional squad, the 1.82-meter-tall, versatile backcourt player made his way into the Bundesliga. After three years at TBV Lemgo and one year in the second division with ASV Hamm-Westfalen, Baijens made his breakthrough in the Bundesliga in 2022 with HSV Hamburg, becoming a key player and leader on the court due to his agility, playfulness, and game intelligence.

After a second successful season in Hamburg, Baijens took on the next challenge and joined the French powerhouse and Champions League top club Paris Saint-Germain. However, he couldn’t find his game nor the role he had hoped for. He is now terminating his original two-year contract early to join the Rhein-Neckar Löwen. With Baijens’ transfer, the Löwen’s squad planning for the upcoming season is now complete.
