No winner in Magdeburg – Decision in Veszprem

SC Magdeburg and One Veszprem played 26:26 at the first match of the EHF Champions League quarter-finals.
GETEC Arena didn’t witness the dominance of the German champions, who managed to take the lead only once, near the end (26:25), and spent most of the match trying to keep pace with Xavi Pascual’s squad, which found its leader both offensively and defensively in the excellent French pivot Ludovic Fabregas, scorer of nine goals.
The early shock from Matthias Musche’s injury froze Bennet Wiegert’s team, which struggled to contain the in-form Russian Sergey Kosorotov, and also had difficulties scoring past Rodrigo Corrales in goal.
Only after Lagergren and Klar stepped up, supported by several good saves from Sergey Hernandez, did the home team find momentum. However, the visitors ended the first half with a lead thanks to the scoring abilities of Aron Palmarsson (11:14).
Veszprém held a comfortable 22:18 lead midway through the second half, but Magdeburg managed a 4:0 run to equalize and eventually took their first lead in the 57th minute through Magnusson. However, this wasn’t converted into a meaningful advantage ahead of the return leg in Veszprém next week.
