The 2024/25 season will be the last in Gedeón Guardiola‘s career. The 40-year-old Spanish handball player became a world champion in 2013, marking the greatest achievement of his career.
Gedeón Guardiola, a 40-year-old handball player, announced his retirement via social media. He is well known for his numerous successes at both the club and international levels.
Guardiola began his career in Spain, playing for BM Valencia, S.D. Teucro, BM Ciudad de Logroño, and Portland San Antonio. In 2012, he moved abroad for the first time, joining the German club Rhein-Neckar Löwen.
With Rhein-Neckar Löwen, he won two national championships and the EHF Cup. Later, he played for other German teams, including TBV Lemgo and HC Erlangen. At the start of the 2024/25 season, he returned to Spain to join BM Nava.
Guardiola made his debut for the Spanish national team in 2011. His greatest achievement was winning the World Championship in 2013. Additionally, he is a two-time European champion (2018, 2020), an Olympic bronze medalist from Tokyo, and has earned multiple World and European Championship medals.
His current club, BM Nava, is in 8th place in the top Spanish league. The team is also competing in the national cup, meaning Guardiola will play at least 11 more matches before ending his career.
