FROM 8.000 TO 2.700: SC Magdeburg Forced to Relocate EHF Champions League Play-off Second Leg to Dessau

SC Magdeburg will have to play the second leg of the Machineseeker EHF Champions League play-offs against Dinamo Bucharest on April 2, 2025, in the Anhalt-Arena Dessau. The Magdeburg GETEC Arena is occupied throughout the entire week due to a long-term booking for a major event.
The Anhalt-Arena in Dessau has a seating capacity of 2,700. The match will kick off at 8:45 PM. The first leg in Bucharest will take place on March 26, 2025, at 7:45 PM local time (6:45 PM CET).
“It is, of course, an unfortunate and unsatisfactory situation that we cannot play our important Champions League play-off second leg at the GETEC Arena. The arena operator, MVGM, informed us that the production of Holiday on Ice had already been booked for the entire week from March 31 to April 6, 2025, more than two years ago. Our subsequent request to reschedule the game to April 8, 2025, was unfortunately not granted by the EHF, and an alternative proposal to swap home rights with Dinamo Bucharest could not be implemented either. As a result, we had to find an alternative venue at short notice. We are pleased to have secured the Anhalt-Arena in Dessau as a backup venue. The city of Dessau and our colleagues at DRHV have provided us with excellent support in this matter. However, it is obvious that due to the limited capacity and the need to reserve seats, including for away fans, we will not be able to meet all ticket requests. We will provide more information on ticket sales in the coming days,” said Marc-Henrik Schmedt, Managing Director of Handball Magdeburg GmbH.
