Riccardo Trillini to replace Zeljko Babic in Olympiacos
Olympiacos S.F.P. announces the beginning of its collaboration with former Italian NT coach Riccardo Trillini. He will replace Croatian coach Zeljko Babic.
From 2017 until February 2025, Riccardo Trillini was the head coach of the Italian National Team, which he led to the recent World Championship, marking Italy’s return to the tournament after 28 years (their last participation was in 1997). He is a well-known name in Italian handball and previously coached the Italian Youth National Team from 2000 to 2004.
The 59-year-old coach has worked exclusively in the Italian league, except for a four-year stint in Luxembourg with Kaerjeng. His achievements include two Italian Championships, two Italian Cups, two Super Cups, and one Handball Trophy, all won with Conversano. In Luxembourg, he also secured one championship and two cups.
Riccardo Trillini’s Statement:
“It is an honor for me to join the family of this club. Olympiacos is a symbol of sports in Greece and Europe! I am excited about the idea of experiencing the atmosphere that surrounds sports here. It is not easy to take over a team three months before the end of the season. However, I am very confident that I can improve the current situation by taking this opportunity to get to know the players in depth and lay the foundations for building a strong team for the coming years. This season has been amazing for me. After the great achievement of the Italian National Team at the recent World Championship, I would like to experience success with Olympiacos as well. I hope that my determination and enthusiasm will inspire all my players.”
