From 1 to 17 December 2017, Germany will host the 23rd edition of the IHF Women’s World Championship. Overall 24 teams from Africa, Asia, Europe and Pan America will take part in the event which is set to take place in Bietigheim-Bissingen, Trier, Oldenburg, Leipzig, Magdeburg and Hamburg.
With Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay, the last three teams joined the field of participants on 25 June, when the 2017 Women’s Pan American Championship came to an end. The pots for the draw on 27 June are thus completed.
The pots for the event are as follows:
Pot 1: Norway, Netherlands, France, Denmark
Pot 2: Romania, Germany, Russia, Sweden
Pot 3: Serbia, Czech Republic, Spain, Brazil
Pot 4: Hungary, Montenegro, Slovenia, South Korea
Pot 5: Angola, Japan, Argentina, China
Pot 6: Paraguay, Tunisia, Cameroon, Poland
In accordance with the IHF regulations, the German Handball Federation has decided to assign the teams of FRA (Group A/Trier), NOR (Group B/Bietigheim-Bissingen), DEN (Group C/Oldenburg) and GER (Group D/Leipzig).
Therefore the draw procedure will be as follows:
- Teams in pot 6 are drawn to groups A – D in row 6.
- Teams in pot 5 are drawn to groups A – D in row 5.
- Teams in pot 4 are drawn to groups A – D in row 4.
- Teams in pot 3 are drawn to groups A – D in row 3.
- Team of Germany is seeded to Group D.
Remaining Teams in pot 2 are drawn to groups A/B/C in row 2.
- Team of France is seeded to group A.
Team of Norway is seeded to group B.
Team of Denmark is seeded to group C.
Team of Netherland is consequently allocated to group D.
The draw will take place in Hamburg, Germany on 27 June 2017 at 14:00 CEST and will be streamed live on the IHF website.
