Zamalek’s player Mohamed ‘Risha’ Abdel-Salam has been suspended by the Egyptian Handball Association (EHA) on Sunday for wearing an American flag T-shirt – “Captain America” costume.
The former international player was wearing the shirt, which featured an American flag design during his side celebrations after winning the African Club Championship .
“The Zamalek player was suspended and referred to investigation after wearing an American flag T-shirt,” wrote in the statement of EHA.
“We took this disciplinary decision to represent a deterrent to other players on international duties,” the statement added.
Zamalek won their ninth African title by beating Tunisian team Africain 35-22 in the final match.
