“La Grande Famiglia dell’ Handball” is the spontaneous movement, which has begun to gather behind Pier Luigi Montauti, the candidate who has been contesting the current Italian Federation president Francesco Purrumuto’s leadership.
The GFH states to have witnessed irregularities in last October’s election ballots. Hence a proper appeal has been brought upon the internal federation court of appeal. Unfortunately the federation has been keeping mum until now on the outcome casting serious doubts on its will to follow a democratic ruling process.
During the last month of November, for three consecutive weeks, teams across the country had been staging a civil protest against the alleged election irregularities on the court called “The Just Timeout.”
Coaches called for the first allowed time out and teams were standing in silence by the bench. Referees kept quiet in the first week but from the following one, yellow cards and two minutes exclusions were given to teams’ benches and players.
The GFH in the case its first appeal will not be successful, will push for further legal actions until the Italian Olympic Committee and the Italian judiciary will have their say on the matter.
Since the notorious October’s federal elections, a new wave of enthusiasm has resurfaced in the Italian handball world, with many former players, coaches, referees and simple fans going back to support the plight of “pallamano”.
The GFH is committed together with all the proactive components of this movement to create a true platform from where to start develop Italian handball again.
